JULY 23, 2026 NEW RELEASE, WINE TASTINGS ARE BACK, AND A SUMMERTIME RECIPE

Bonjour! Is it time for a bone-dry Riesling? I think so. Cast your memory back to 2019… From our datebook: “We had heavy snowfall (over 100” accumulation that winter!) and late bud break. The summer temperatures were cooler than in previous years with a notable lack of heat spikes. Rains began early in September and forced us to pick our grapes early.” An early harvest means racy acidity, brightness, and underripe (green) qualities in some of the red grapes. A cold early harvest tells the winemaker they will have to be patient and allow the flavors to develop in the cellar and bottle before the wine is ready. Just how patient, we did not know.

We are very excited to finally present to you our 2019 Riesling from McCarthy Vineyard high in the hills of Lyle. This microscopic plantation of Riesling was planted in the 1970s on steep south facing slopes surrounded by a tall stand of Douglas Fir trees, wild mushrooms, and epic sweeping views of Rowena and the plateau between The Dalles and Mount Hood.

With a low pH and driving mineral backbone, we felt comfortable leaving this white wine to age in barrel for almost two years. Gorgeous light straw colors developed and we bottled in August of 2021.

At least once per year since it’s bottling, we’ve sat down to analyze this wine’s flavor profile. Every year it inched closer to complexity. Finally, five years later, we are releasing this old-world-style dry Riesling to you.

Never had a cellar aged Riesling before? You are in for a treat! The aroma and flavor profile is: nectarine, persimmon, Granny Smith apple, petrol, lemon and salty sea breeze. This Riesling has zero residual sugar. The cellar aging has married rich caramelized oxidation with racy acidity for a pleasant and well-rounded dry Riesling. Perfect pairing with rich crab cakes.
